Cutting Your own Christmas Tree
Every year our family tradition is to go up to Red Feather Lakes area to cut down our Christmas tree. We pack up food, hot cocoa and all the fixings needed for hiking through the countryside looking for that perfect tree. There’s nothing like having a real tree to add to our Christmas decorations.
If you want to make this a tradition for your family, here is the link with all the information you need: Christmas Tree Sales
You’ll need 4WD or AWD as the roads are unpaved, rocky and often covered with snow. Dress for the weather, Red Feather Lakes area is close to 8000′ in elevation so you can expect colder weather and snow. Also, bring a bow saw as you are not allowed to use power saws. You’ll need $10 cash per tree that you cut down. You’ll pay the Park Rangers at the exit. Of course, bring everything you need to make for a fun day in the mountains!
